FIRST AID AWARENESS ACTIVITY
Topic: Learning First Aid Through Role Play – Fractures, Snake Bites, Burns and Insect Bites
Introduction
A First Aid Awareness Activity was conducted for Class 5 students to help them understand the importance of providing immediate care during emergencies. Through an engaging role-play activity, students enacted different emergency situations involving fractures, snake bites, burns and insect bites.
Objectives
- To create awareness about the importance of first aid.
- To demonstrate appropriate first aid techniques for common injuries.
- To develop quick and safe responses during emergencies.
- To encourage empathy, teamwork and a helping attitude.
Activity
Students participated enthusiastically in four different role-play situations:
1. First Aid for Fractures
Students demonstrated how to keep an injured person still and support the fractured area using a wooden scale as a splint and a crepe bandage. They learnt the importance of avoiding unnecessary movement and seeking immediate medical assistance.
2. First Aid for Snake Bites
Students enacted a snake-bite emergency and learnt the importance of staying calm, keeping the affected limb still and taking the victim to the hospital immediately. They also understood the harmful effects of cutting or sucking the wound.
Students demonstrated the importance of cooling a burn under clean, cool running water and covering it loosely with a clean cloth. They learnt not to apply toothpaste, oil or ice to the affected area.
4. First Aid for Insect Bites
Students demonstrated how to clean the affected area with soap and water, avoid scratching and use a cold compress to reduce swelling. They also learnt to watch for signs of allergic reactions.
5. First Aid for Nose bleed
Students demonstrated sitting upright and leaning forward slightly. They practiced gently pinching the soft part of the nose to stop bleeding. The activity helped students develop awareness of basic first aid and emergency care.
Learning Outcomes
Through this activity, students:
- - Identified different types of common injuries.
- - Understood basic first aid measures for emergency situations.
- - Learnt the do's and don'ts of first aid.
- - Recognized the importance of seeking immediate medical attention.
- - Developed confidence, cooperation and a sense of responsibility towards others.
Conclusion
The activity was an informative and practical learning experience for the students. Through role play and demonstrations, they gained awareness of basic first aid practices and understood how timely and appropriate action can help protect lives.
